Showmanship

Showmanship isn’t technically a division. It is a class that all horse project exhibitors must compete in if they want to go to the county fair. In fact, Showmanship (known as fitting & showing in other animal projects) is a required class for all 4-H animal exhibitors!

Showmanship is done in hand. You pose your horse, show it off to the judge, and lead it through a pre-posted pattern. There are three levels of Showmanship (plus medals):

  • Green Horse: for young horses in training.
  • Novice: for beginning exhibitors
  • Open: for anyone. This is the only class that will qualify you for State Fair.
