PLACINGS AT OUR SHOWS

Pierce County uses a "Modified Danish System" meaning that we use "Group Method of Judging"; Blue, Red, White. Therefore, youth are initially judged as individuals based on their skills and placed according. Please see the publication posted on the WSU 4-H website http://4h.wsu.edu/projects/danishsys.htm

The "Modified" part of the Danish System is that we offer the option to Judges to present additional awards. For our Qualifying Shows they may give a Grand, Reserve Grand, 1st High Blue, 2nd High Blue & 3rd High Blue; if they feel it is merited. At our County Fair they may give Grand, Reserve and 3rd - 8th Place. The key to the modified system is the "If merited". You are not required to give those placings. You may feel the top youth in the class merits a high blue but not a Reserve Grand or Grand or you may feel none of the youth accomplished a standard you feel merits the extra awards. It is the call of the Judge.
