STATE FAIR

Congratulations to all those who survived State Fair!  Pierce County youth did amazing, even placing top 8 in MANY events!  (You can see those results by visiting our State Fair webpage!)

A special thank you to all those adult volunteers who stepped up to assist with decorating and coordinating decorations, apparel, team set-up and take down.  This was the first year we did not have a “State Fair Coordinator” so it was a team effort.  THANK YOU! Mary, Valarie, Connie, Kimberly, Leann, Michelle, Jill and all the other parents who jumped in to make it happen.  If you are interested in helping with coordination duites  next year, PLEASE contact Jill.

A NEW YEAR!

You should have received an email from the 4-H Office notifying you that our new year enrollment starts October 1st.  It’s time to re-enroll Leaders, Adult Volunteers, Youth and Horses on 4-H Online for the 2019-2020 4-H Year!

We will have many volunteer positions with the Horse Department to fill for 2019-20. Click here to see the current roster.  If you are listed as a coordinator or division chair and are interested in continuing that duty, (or discontinuing that duty) this next 4-H year, or see a position you would be interested in helping with, please let Jill know.  Sarah Rinkel is pleading for an adult volunteer to help coach Hippology this year.  If you can help her out, please email here ASAP!  Click here  We will start taking nominations and appointing volunteers at the October Parent/Leader’s meeting.  We also need to fill Qualifying Show Chairs!  Feel free to email Jill if you have any questions.

MEETINGS

Our first quarterly meeting for the Pierce County 4-H Horse Department is Wednesday, October 16th from 7:00pm – 9:00pm at the Horse Play Café’ (Tacoma Unit).  These meetings are mandatory, meaning every club must send a representative.

Pierce County 4-H is holding a Teen Leader’s meeting on October 4th , 7:00pm at the 4-H Office.  This is a great way for teens to take additional leadership roles, make some great memories, as well as meet other teens from around the County.  Rumor is, Nicole Kaiser has her hands in reviving this group, so you know it will be fun!

HORSE BOARD VACANCY

Wendy King is stepping down from the Horse Board leaving us with an adult, a one-year term to fill.  We will be taking nominations at the October meeting.  If you would like to nominate someone ahead of time, and have confirmed they will accept, please email Kimberly.

2018-2019 RECORD BOOKS

If you would like to submit your completed Record Book for the Horse Department Record Book Awards program, please send to the October 16th Parent/Leader’s meeting.  Awards will be given at the County Achievement Night, usually in November.

CLUBS & EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES

It would be wonderful if every club could sponsor some type of educational activity for county participants this coming year; workshop, clinic, or judging.  As your club sets goals for the new year please consider doing something for the program as a whole.  To have your activity count as an educational point/activiity you just need to submit your proposal to the board a minimum of 6 weeks prior to holding the event.  Click here for the Workshop/Clinic Proposal form, you can use this for judgings as well. (Maybe there is a discounted or free public clinic in your area that you feel would be beneficial to 4-H youth; your club can simply take on the sponsorship of this activity by submitting the proposal to have it accepted as an educational activity and coordinate the attendance sign in requirements.)  If every Club provided or sponsored one activity, we would have the possibility of up to 18 events!  We can accomplish so much more as a team!
